U.N. FLAGS AND BUNTING

The United Nations was established in 1945 to promote international peace, security and co-operation. It is the largest and the most important international organization, with 185 member-states. Its specialized departments handle international issues including economic, monetary, scientific, educational, social, judicial and health matters. The flag was adopted on 20 October 1947. The colour blue and the olive branches symbolize peace, and the map of the world represents the organization's global concerns.
