ETHIOPIA FLAGS AND BUNTING


The Ethiopian horizontal tricolour dates back to c.1895. In 1996 the new national emblem was placed in the centre of the flag. The blue symbolizes peace and the penta- gram represents the unity of the nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia The original symbolism of the colours denoted the Christian virtues. In the present official symbolism, the green represents fertility, labour and development the yellow, hope, justice and equality and the red, sacrifice and heroism in the cause of freedom and equality.
